Hartford Changemakers presents Documentary Photography with Jasmine Jones
Join us alongside local artists to create murals, photos, stories, and food that celebrate Hartford Black, Latinx, and indigenous historical changemakers as well as our own neighborhood stories and visions of shaping the history of Hartford.
Workshops will take place one day a week July 11th-August 19th, 2022. Mural reveal celebrations, which will also showcase the work created by workshop participants, will take place in late August - tentatively on Saturday, August 27. Workshops are open to Hartford, CT residents ages 13 and older. These workshops are designed for teens, adults, and older adults. The workshops will be in-person and a mix of indoors and outdoors (except storytelling, which will be only indoors)

This workshop will focus on documentary storytelling through still photography. Participants will learn how to find a subject matter they are passionate about documenting, capture it with a unique vision while showcasing an understanding of composition, and critique their work and the work of other documentary photographers. Participants will take home professional photo prints of their favorite work at the end of the series.
Jasmine Jones is a photographer and filmmaker from Hartford, CT. Her work focuses on daily life, overlooked moments, and ignored communities. Her goal is to showcase those who should be seen and heard and to use her art as an outlet for them to tell their own stories. She is the founder and publisher of Aislin Magazine, an arts and culture magazine based in Hartford.

Dwight Branch is the oldest of the branches, established in 1907 when it was opened in the South School District Building. It was established at the request of the public and named in honor of Henry C. Dwight who was chairman of the district committee and instrumental in leading the effort. In April 1979, the Branch was relocated to the new Parkville Elementary School at 7 New Park Avenue.
